As a long time ‘tapper’ and professionally accredited trainer of Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT/tapping) I was delighted to read the article “How tapping helped me change my life last year” in which the author describes how using EFT as a self-help tool consistently reduces their stress and anxiety. Millions of tappers world-wide agree with how quickly and easily this low cost, simple to use strategy works to promote peace, health and happiness.

I would like to correct the statement that not much is known about how EFT/tapping works. Agreed, in its early days twenty-five years ago, there was no scientific evidence to support the waves of positive anecdotal experiences such as that described by this author. However, today there is an ever-expanding body of clinical research that delineates the mechanisms by which tapping on selected acupressure points sends electrical signals to the emotional centres of the brain to down regulate the stress response. Over 100 articles published in peer reviewed professional journals point to the efficacy of EFT’s integration of mind and body as being equal or better than conventional gold standard approaches such as cognitive behavioural therapy. As well the research supports that it works more quickly and permanently than such older techniques.

In Canada, along with many self-help tappers, there are over 100 professionally certified coaches and clinicians using EFT to help clients reduce, and very often eliminate, distressing emotional, psychological and chronic physical symptoms, including those associated with serious PTSD.

With ever increasing numbers of people, young and old, experiencing debilitating anxiety, addictions and chronic pain, it’s good to know there is literally relief ‘at their fingertips’!

Sincerely,
Nancy Forrester
