Over the past month, NeftTI has been focusing on how vital it is that educators regulate their own emotions, thoughts and behaviours by building their capacity to consistently regulate their nervous systems. And, of course, we are all educators, whether we educate in a classroom or through parenting or as a professional therapist or coach.
Not only is this important for the well-being of the educator themselves, but as Dr. Goleman points out,
since the educator is always the more socially dominant person in the room, whatever they emotionally experience will become the experience of the student.
Whew – what a responsibility!
Fortunately, we have EFT.
I have not yet found a modality that can reverse the human fight/flight/freeze response in as simple, fast and effective way. The good news is, after tapping on whatever is upsetting us, our uplifted emotional experience also flows with special strength to the less socially dominant person!
What a wonderful gift it is for others that we take care of our own well-being.
The mirror neurons that Goleman speaks about are a major discovery in the last decade of neuroscience. They are a type of brain cell believed to be the mechanism where we connect socially and emotionally through what we observe in others. We cry at movies, we feel pain when we see someone fall down, we feel our heart racing as a runner triumphantly crosses the finish line.
We literally have a gut level reaction to other people’s actions.
The mirror neurons in OUR brain fire equally whether we perform an action or whether we are just witnessing someone else performing that action.
This involuntary and automatic neural mechanism has far reaching implications – apparently, we don’t have to think about what other people are doing or feeling – we just know. EFT takes advantage of this ‘human factory installed equipment’ through a process called BORROWING BENEFITS.
Observing someone else do EFT has positive impact on our mind/body. And when we tap along as someone else doing EFT on THEIR issues, our biological system is able to translate that into a positive impact on our issues!
So, I encourage you to tap along as Kerry Garnier offers us her gift of a HOLIDAY STRESS tap along video.
Whether you are formally an educator or not – you’ll BORROW BENEFITS on your own holiday stress issues!
If you ARE an educator, I’m so pleased to announce that Kerry has created and is managing a completely free Facebook group specifically for educators who want to improve their well-being and positively impact their students and community.
And if you have an educator you care about, please share this opportunity to them.
Many many thanks for helping us create a healthier, more respectful and empowering educational system.
Together let’s tap into the true meaning of the Season,
Nancy
